Sharp expands OLED investment scale to 878 million USD

Sharp Co. (Sharp Co., 6753.TO, SHCAY) plans to expand its investment scale, spending approximately 100 billion yen (about 880 million USD) to manufacture organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays, a technology that will be applied to Apple Inc.'s next series of Mobile phones.

Optoelectronic Association: The automotive panel market reached 170 million pieces in 2022.

The Optoelectronic Alliance pointed out that head-up displays (HUD) and electronic rearview mirrors (E-mirror) are among the areas. With the widespread installation of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), all detection and communication information displayed in ADAS must rely on panel displays, making the global automotive panel market outlook promising.

JOLED is expected to trial production of OLED panels next year, possibly surpassing Samsung.

Under the integration of the Japanese public-private fund "Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ)", Sony, Panasonic, and Japan Display Inc (JDI) announced on July 31 that they will establish a new company "JOLED" engaged in OLED panel research and development in January 2015.
